Harlem Bookworms in Schools

Harlem Bookworms gives educators ready-to-use social-emotional learning resources that combine music, stories, movement, animation, and classroom activities for children ages 3–8.

Teachers can use Harlem Bookworms during morning meetings, SEL instruction, literacy time, music, transitions, after-school programming, or small-group lessons. Each topic is designed around an important childhood skill such as confidence, emotional awareness, friendship, kindness, mindfulness, communication, healthy habits, growth mindset, and school readiness.

A Harlem Bookworms school lesson may include an original song or animated video, a short teacher guide, discussion questions, a hands-on activity, printable worksheets, emotion cards, classroom posters, and a family extension activity. The materials are designed to be engaging, culturally positive, easy to implement, and flexible enough to fit different classroom schedules.

Schools and organizations can choose resources for a single classroom, multiple classrooms, an after-school program, or a schoolwide initiative. Optional presentations, music-based workshops, staff support, and family engagement activities can also be included.

Harlem Bookworms helps schools create joyful learning experiences while giving children practical tools to express their feelings, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and make positive choices.
